What is a Streaming Text?

Streaming Text is a Live and "Real Time" form of Broadcasting over the internet, except the Media is Text itself. The largest use for this currently is in the financial sector. Things like real time stock market tickers, Nasdaq Level II quote systems, interest rates, etc. all rely on a Streaming Text based product.

Streaming text can also be interactive. Things like two-way or multi-directional chatting are both quite common and very popular on the internet. Programs like ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger are based on streaming text for chat.
